Walking 4 Health

BRCC co-ordinates around forty Walking4Health walk programmes throughout Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough. These individual programmes are led by trained volunteer Health Walk Leaders.

Our health walks are regular walks which are free and open to all – though aimed particularly at people who are presently doing little or no exercise – and usually last from 60 to 90 minutes, though there are also some shorter ‘beginners’ walks.

People are encouraged to walk at their own pace, safe in the knowledge that they are walking with trained leaders, one of whom will remain at the back of the group, with the slowest walkers.

At the end of the walk we encourage walkers to socialise – therefore many of our walks finish where people can have a drink and a chat.

One walker, who was referred to Walking4Health after suffering a stroke, told us: “I can’t praise Walking4Health enough, it was important to my recovery. The involvement has helped so many of our members, after health problems, bereavement and loneliness. It’s fun and the social aspect is so important…walking keeps you healthy.”
