The opportunity
We have a number of full-time and/or part-time opportunities, to join our established team of Community Wellbeing Champions delivering our Community Referral Social Prescribing service across the county. The opportunities available will be ideal for someone who has a proven track record in supporting people to be independent, has a good knowledge of adult social care and can work confidently with other professionals. We have some opportunities aligned to our Primary Care service.
We are also seeking to recruit a Mental Health Community Wellbeing Champion to cover Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard. In partnership with East London Foundation Trust the successful post holder will work alongside colleagues in the Community Mental Health Team based at Grove View and Crombie House in Central Bedfordshire to support adults with serious mental illness.

Community Referral Social Prescribing is an established service across Bedfordshire, we seek individuals who are keen to embed this approach to supporting people in their local community to improve their health and wellbeing.
The role
The Beds RCC Community Referral Social Prescribing service ensures that people with a range of non-medical needs affecting their health are cared for and included within their local communities, by connecting them with Good Neighbour and Village Care schemes and/or other local activities and services. You will work alongside health and care professionals in a locality and GP surgery setting to identify suitable referrals; and help service users to identify and achieve their goals by means of a personalised support plan. You will build relationships with local community groups, and build community capacity to meet identified gaps in provision. You will attend clinical MDT meetings to discuss the needs of the people you support and embed the role.
Who we are looking for
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a range of interpersonal, team working and problem solving skills, as well as a high level of IT literacy Microsoft 365 packages, Case Management and SystmOne. You will have a strong commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable people and those with poor mental health and connect lonely and isolated people to lasting support. You will have previously helped people to address their life goals and needs.
You will be required to ‘hit the ground running’ and be able to manage multiple priorities effectively within a fast moving environment. You will have a full driving licence and be prepared to work in-person in clinical settings and community settings. There may be occasional weekends / evenings.

Outline terms and conditions
- Period: Posts are generally 1 year, with the expectation of extending to at least March 2027 – and likely beyond – based on anticipated funding becoming available. One post is for covering Maternity Leave and so is likely to be less than 12 months.
- Working hours: 1,589 hours per annum before holidays, based on a 35 hour/week FTE.
- Place of work: BRCC’s offices at Cardington, Bedford, but with considerable travel to community locations around the given Locality area in Central Bedfordshire or Bedford Borough, and some flexibility to work from home.
- Salary: £32,597 for 35hpw per annum (subject to anticipated cost of living increase) plus matched pension contribution of up to 4%
- Expenses: Mileage is paid at 45p/mile for car users
- Holidays: 231 hours holiday per annum pro rata, which includes all Bank / Public Holidays
- Line management: the post reports to the Community and Wellbeing Service Manager
