Staff from Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership (MVCRP) visited Westfield School, Bedford on Wednesday 10 February to present some goodies and Tesco vouchers for distribution to local families in need.
The initiative is part of the ongoing community support programme run by MVCRP. A similar presentation was made to MK-ACT Domestic Violence Intervention Services, a charity in Milton Keynes, just before Christmas 2020.
Westfield School were referred to MVCRP by one of the Social Prescribers from BedsRCCs Health and Wellbeing team, and pupils from the school have visited the line and Heritage Centre previously.
Stephen Sleight, pictured with Assistant Headteacher Edd Kitchiner, said “It was a pleasure to be able to make this donation as part of our ongoing community work. We are very committed to helping out where we can and supporting those in need, especially during the current climate.
It was also really heart-warming to hear how the pupils that used our lovely line to visit us at our very own Ridgmont Station Heritage Centre back in November 2019 are still talking about it now. It’s made our week. We can’t wait to welcome the other half of the class to visit the line and the Heritage Centre once train services resume and restrictions are lifted.”
The vouchers and goods were distributed on Friday, ready for half-term.
Westfield School is currently open for children of key workers only.
