An article by Glug Magazine features our very own vineyard, highlighting the importance of community vineyards.
Wine52’s new wine publication have recently published an article featuring three community vineyards across the world, including our very own vineyard! The article underlines the importance of having spaces for everybody to get involved in their local communities, to meet new people and improve their mental health.
Glug Magazine’s article explains how Warden Abbey Vineyard came about, with Cistercian monks cultivating grapes at the site of the abbey as early as the 12th century. Since BRCC took on the vineyard in 2010, a lot has changed over the years.
Vineyard manager Jane Markham talks about how the pandemic has frustratingly put a hold on certain projects. However, she is looking forward to when things will be able to start up properly again.

The article also features Forty Hall Vineyard, a social enterprise based in Enfield, North London and Two Eighty Project, a community vineyard in San Francisco, California. Wellbeing is at the centre of Forty Hall Vineyard’s mission. By taking part, volunteers are making a difference to the vineyard and their own mental health. The Two Eighty Project focuses on raising awareness of the injustice in wine-making. They also offer paid apprenticeships to give everybody a chance to learn and make a living.
