Good Neighbours Week

Today (Monday 10th October) marks the start of Good Neighbours Week, during which counties across the UK are sharing the benefits of Good Neighbour Schemes and celebrating the positive work of volunteers.

Good Neighbour Schemes (sometimes known as village care schemes) are set up and run by local residents who offer help and support to fellow residents of their town or village.

Beds RCC supports Good Neighbour Schemes across Bedfordshire from helping setting them up, to giving advice as they grow, and celebrating successes with them. This year we were proud to celebrate Biggleswade Good Neighbours Group receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service at the award presentation in July.

We also celebrated Silsoe Offers Support’s 20th Anniversary last week at a special birthday tea party. At this event, all attendees were given mug filled with an activity book, tea, hot chocolate, and more treats for them to enjoy. These were created by charity ā€˜Small Acts of Kindnessā€˜ with some help from Beds RCC.

One way you can get involved with Good Neighbours Week is by using this opportunity to share a cuppa and have a chat with your neighbours. You never know when they may need a helping hand or just someone to speak to. Why not pop over and say hello?

We’ll be sharing more about Good Neighbours on our Social Media pages during the week so make sure to give us a follow on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Find us @bedsrcc on all platforms.
