The Village Agents’ team had the unexpected pleasure of meeting with Mayor Dave Hodgson on Friday 20th January. The team of four are funded by the Borough of Bedford, but tend to keep a low profile, as their focus is on small village communities.
To their surprise, a chance encounter with Mayor Dave at a local coffee morning showed that he was well aware of their work, and resulted in the surprise invitation to join him for tea in the Mayor’s Parlour. They were accompanied by Deputy Chief Executive Cliff Andrews and Head of Community and Wellbeing Kate Ellis.
Mayor Dave chatted to them about the different villages they covered, and explained some of the ways in which the Council are attempting to protect the more vulnerable inhabitants of the Borough. He thanked the Agents for the work they do, and showed them the official regalia, town charter, and other historical artefacts on display in the Mayor’s Parlour.
The Village Agents were fascinated to learn more about Bedford history, and enjoyed trying on the robes and symbols of office.
Our Village and Community Agents connect with older people to help them with free support and assistance. We currently have six agents working across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire, and this team is expanding soon.
