Celebrating a Decade of Dedication

Congratulations and many thanks to Good Neighbour group Leighton Linslade Helping Hands (LLHH) who have reached their 10th anniversary!

To mark the occasion, the group held a celebratory evening at Leighton Buzzard’s Ship Inn, where volunteers and clients past and present got together with other special guests to have fun and to reflect on ten years of LLHH helping out their local community.

Simon Patterson, who is part of BRCC’s support team for all the Good Neighbour schemes in Bedfordshire, presented a commemorative thank-you certificate to Liz, the group’s chair.

Liz originally joined the group because: “I wanted to give something back and to meet new people as well. I’ve been doing it for the last ten years – it’s just flown by! I’ve met some really interesting people and it’s varied, it’s rewarding, and it’s just a wonderful thing to do. And now, leading the group, I’m really proud to be part of this organisation that does a lot of small things that make a big difference.”

Doreen, the co-secretary of the group, said that “it’s been a privilege to be a part of this organisation; such a wonderful bunch of people who do small but very important things for their local community. I’ve made new friends in volunteers and new friends of client. Volunteering is a two-way street and, like many of my co-volunteers, we get out as much as we put in.”

Sue, one of the phone holders, said that the last ten years of LLHH has been amazing, “It seems incredible how many local people we’ve helped during that time and the little things we do that mean an awful lot to many, many local people. It’s very rewarding to know that we do these things.”

David, informally known as the Chauffeur-in-chief for his driving, said that being involved with Leighton Linslade Helping Hands was “the best job I’ve ever had.”
