New hydraulic lift means freedom for Mr B

BedsRCC has a team of four Village Agents, funded by Bedford Borough Council, who help older and vulnerable people living in rural areas. The agents provide a range of support, from the standard everyday requests like guidance on how to access services and filling forms, to more bespoke needs.

Mr B is a Wilstead client who has Parkinson’s Disease and was virtually trapped in his mobile home in Briar Bank Park. His home has several steep steps at the front which he would have to walk up to gain access. Mr B was starting to struggle.

Village Agent Andrea helped Mr B to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant for a hydraulic lift and at the start of July, it was installed by Bedford Borough Council.

Andrea said “Mr B is absolutely delighted with the results and it really has changed his life. Being able to come and go from your home without thinking about it is something we all take for granted, but for Mr B it had become a daunting prospect. Now, he can now leave the house safely without fear of falling.

Our role is to help residents with all kinds of issues affecting their lives and this is exactly the outcome we strive to achieve. I’m really pleased for him.”
