Self Care Week

Self Care Week is an annual national awareness week that focuses on embedding support for self care across communities, families and generations. This year, it falls on 14th – 20th November and the theme is ‘Exercise Self Care for Life’

Self Care Week is organised by the Self Care Forum, who have been running the week since 2011. Some of the advice the Self Care Forum is sharing this year includes:

  • the importance of taking vitamin D supplements, particularly important for those shielding and unable to go outside
  • good nutrition and regular exercise supports general wellbeing and helps maximize people’s immunity
  • the importance of adopting positive lifestyle choices
  • mental wellness can be supported by keeping connected, ensuring a sense of perspective, and taking further steps to maintain health

Find out more about the Self Care Forum on their website.

Here at Beds RCC, many of our services and projects help people to practice self care and improve their wellbeing. From Social Prescribing, who provide free personalised support to help you make positive changes to take control of your health and wellbeing, to our Wellbeing Walks, which help people get some exercise in a positive and safe environment.

What’s so Important about Self Care?

The Self Care Forum has put together ‘The POWER of Self Care’ fact sheet. Download a copy to find out why Self Care is so important.

Don’t forget – Self Care isn’t just for this week. Practising Self Care is important all the time, and especially as we go into the colder, darker months where people can be affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

How can you Get Involved?

This week is the perfect opportunity to introduce a bit of self care in your life and those around you. Arrange a walk in the park with family, friends or colleagues, or set some time each day to try out a new home-workout, such as Yoga or Pilates.

Here at Beds RCC, we are running some sessions for staff and volunteers to help people spend time getting to know eachother better and look after their wellbeing. The activities a Natural Mindfulness session, Wellbeing Walk, and Autumnal Art.

Why not run something similar in your workplace this week, or over the coming weeks?
