Loneliness Awareness Week: 12th – 18th June

We’re proudly supporting Loneliness Awareness Week from Monday 12th until Sunday 18th June, hosted by Marmalade Trust.

Loneliness Awareness Week is an opportunity to build our sense of community connection and reduce loneliness. Marmalade Trust is a leading loneliness charity for all ages and the only charity in the world specifically dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness.

Everyday moments of connection matter, whether it’s your regular barista, the friendly dog on your walk, or the shopkeeper down the road. They allow us to make new connections, feel happier and less lonely. This Loneliness Awareness Week, we’re harnessing these moments, and together, we can all feel less lonely.

Want to Get Involved?

You can take part and show your support by visiting the Loneliness Awareness Week website. Every year, thousands of charities, organisations and individuals of every size and sector join Marmalade Trust to take part in Loneliness Awareness Week. We’re getting involved by sharing about some of our projects which are helping to combat loneliness in Bedfordshire:

You Can Do IT!

You Can Do IT! is a digital inclusion project working to improve people’s lives by getting them online and accessing services that will improve their wellbeing. This project is fighting loneliness by helping people to get connected in new ways, especially with those who may live far apart.

Community Garden Groups

We have two new community garden groups in Dunstable Community Halls and Ridgmont Station Heritage Centre and Tea Room. These are a great way to be involved in a growing project, help to improve the local area and meet new people. Find out more here.

Wellbeing Walks

Wellbeing Walks run across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire and allow people to walk in a safe space, at their own pace. Walkers are welcome to join as and when they are able, and many have developed strong friendships through these groups.

Warden Abbey Vineyard

Warden Abbey Vineyard is Bedfordshire’s only community vineyard, and volunteers play a key role in helping with historical research, vineyard tours, organising events and fundraising. Helping at the vineyard is a unique opportunity to make your mark on Bedfordshire and become a part of the friendly volunteering group.
