To celebrate the launch of Pavenham’s new Good Neighbour Scheme, members of the Good Neighbours committee, volunteers and those interested in receiving help from the scheme met at the village pub. The group celebrated the launch with tea and cake, and it was a fantastic opportunity to meet others and encourage one another.

Beds RCC supports a network of over 40 Good Neighbour Schemes in both Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire. The Pavenham Good Neighbours will be able to help people in the village with jobs such as lifts to hospital appointments, dog walking, changing a lightbulb – anything one neighbour might do for another.

At the event, people who wanted to find out more about the help the group provide came along to have their questions answered. An initial survey went out to the village residents to share about the scheme, and the responses have been positive. One lady who attended the drop in said although she wasn’t looking for help currently, she wanted to find out more in case she needed help in the future.

When asked why he had decided to get involved, Graham, a member of the committee, said:

I’m really excited to have a new project like this – I think it is going to be very good for the village and we will have a chance to help people who really need help.
