The Good Neighbour volunteers of Felmersham & Radwell Community Care are delighted that their trial venture ‘Lunch Together’ has proved so popular it is continuing throughout the summer.
This monthly ‘soup and sandwiches’ get-together at The Sun, Felmersham’s local pub, launched in January in response to comments from an older resident about how lonely it felt stuck at home on dark winter days with nothing interesting to look forward to where he could meet people.
The first ‘Lunch Together’ was held the Friday before January’s infamous Blue Monday, so may have helped people remain positive through this gloomy date. Further ‘Lunch Together’ sessions followed in February, March and April with people often staying on long after the meal to continue their conversations. The Good Neighbour organisers have now booked sessions each month through to July.
Maggie Spoor of Felmersham & Radwell Community Care said:
“The people at the pub have been absolutely brilliant supporting this initiative and the soup and sandwiches have been delicious and beautifully presented. We are getting around 23 people each time and they all seem to be enjoying it going by the level of chatting going on.”
This was endorsed by one of the ladies attending who said:
“I am recently widowed and it’s really nice that I can turn up on my own and enjoy the company of other villagers”.
