5 July 2023 marks 75 years of the National Health Service, founded in 1948.
Over the past 75 years, the NHS has shaped the UK in many ways and been at the forefront of many advances in healthcare. Here at BRCC, we want to say a big ‘happy birthday’ to the NHS and congratulate them on the positive impact they have had on all of our lives.
The NHS was the first universal health system available to all, free at the point of delivery. After the devastations caused by World War 2, the NHS helped to build back the country to even more than it was before the war.
The NHS has delivered huge medical advances, including the worldās first liver, heart and lung transplant in 1987, pioneering new treatments, such as bionic eyes and, in more recent times, the worldās first rapid whole genome sequencing service for seriously ill babies and children.

Here at Beds RCC we work closely with the NHS across many of our projects and services, including Social Prescribing and You Can Do IT! Without the support of the NHS, these projects wouldn’t be able to run, so we are very grateful for the NHS and the work they do.
