We’re delighted to announce that Central Bedfordshire Good Neighbour Scheme (GNS) Volunteers won first prize in the Supporting Communities during COVID-19 category at the Cheering Volunteer Awards on Friday (5 March 2021).
The GNS was nominated in the category for their tireless work in supporting those in need throughout. The nomination reads: “Every volunteer within the Central Beds section of our Bedfordshire Good Neighbour and Village Care Scheme Network. It is impossible to single out just one individual – each is essential in their village or town and each deserves recognition for amazing work and commitment during COVID-19. Over the last six months, volunteers have undertaken over 18,000 jobs for over 3,800 people needing help.”
To add to the celebrations on the night, Jenny Gallucci from Houghton Regis Helpers was Highly Commended for the Volunteer of the Year Award and Suzan Whittle from Harlington Good Neighbours was Highly Commended in the Supporting Communities during COVID-19 Award.
Walking for Health were also Highly Commended in the Sports and Wellbeing Volunteer of the Year Award.
Tracy Cowan, CEO of BedsRCC said, “I am so proud of all our volunteers and the enormous effort they have put into supporting our communities over the last year. We’ve faced a unique crisis, one never experienced before, and rather than shy away, they have stepped up to the mark and shown what incredible community spirit there is in Bedfordshire. This is a very well deserved award and I know the whole BedsRCC team are as proud as I am.”
Central Bedfordshire Council hope that when restrictions are lifted sometime later this year, the winners will be able to attend event where they will officially receive their certificates.
