Ivel Valley Conservation Volunteers (IVCV)
Get outdoors, learn new skills, meet like-minded people and help protect the places that matter most. Join our conservation volunteers and make a real difference for local wildlife and natural habitats.
IVCV is led by Beds RCC staff and delivers an annual programme of weekly practical conservation tasks, such as:
- tree and hedge planting
- scrub clearance
- habitat creation
- installation and maintenance of fences, benches and other site furniture.
IVCV enables participants to learn new skills at the same time as improving their physical and mental health.
The group meets on Tuesdays in the eastern part of the county (areas surrounding Sandy and Biggleswade). We also welcome one-off corporate volunteering.
Fore more information or to get involved, contact Will by email on will.langrish@bedsrcc.org.uk.
Volunteer River Wardens
Our team of Volunteer River Wardens keep a regular eye out on stretches of waterways. They notice changes throughout the seasons and spot issues. A reporting and support system allows any issues found by them to be dealt with promptly.
This volunteering role is ideal for someone who already walks near a river during their regular routine, or for someone looking to get outside more and make a positive difference to their local rivers. We ask for one survey per season, but more data is always welcome if you would like to do more!
Training will be given, and will include health and safety, important river features, native noteworthy species, invasive non-native species and how to report issues.
If you are interested in the condition of your local stream or river, and would like to help maintain or improve it, then please get in touch.
Warden Abbey Vineyard
Warden Abbey Vineyard is lovingly cared for all year round by local people giving their time to the project. Itās a great green gym, and unique way to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people, and relax from the stresses of life.
Volunteer sessions at the vineyard are generally held on Tuesdays and Fridays, between 9.30am and 4pm, depending on the seasonal task to be done.
